Trey Lance vs. Vikings in week 12
Maybe you’re sick of seeing Lance’s name in this column every week as he continues to ride the pine tree. I still think the 49ers will eventually get their quarterback of the future back on the field, and I think he’ll post a good point total once he gets back into the lineup. Lance is an amazing runner, and the quarter runs are fantastic gold. The 49ers have a good schedule from Week 13 to Week 17, with games against the Seahawks, Bengals, Falcons, Titans and Texans.
Tyrod Taylor vs. Jets in week 12
Hey, I’m not going to try to tell you that Taylor is a good quarterback. I’ve been skeptical of Taylor since his days in Buffalo when a legion of believers started calling him “Ty-god”. But there is value to Taylor’s running ability, and he could have a few backside Week 12 assists against the Jets, who have the league’s worst opposing passer rating (108.1) and allow 8.4 yards per passing attempt.
BACK TO THE RACE
Eno Benjamin BYE in week 12
Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds are on IR and are not eligible to return until Week 14. That leaves Benjamin as the first replacement for James Conner, who has had durability issues in the past. Benjamin is only one away from a leading role in one of the NFL’s best offensives. As reported in this space last week, Benjamin has run for 2,725 yards and 26 touchdowns in his last two seasons at Arizona State and also caught 77 passes for 630 yards and four touchdowns during that streak.
Qadree Ollison in Jacksonville in week 12
There just aren’t many interesting waiver thread hiding places to run this week other than Benjamin, but Ollison deserves a mention. With Cordarrelle Patterson out for the Falcons on Thursday night, Ollison played in front of Wayne Gallman and played the same number of snaps as Mike Davis. Ollison was 9-34-0 on the ground and looked sharper than Davis who had three carries for a yard. Ollison has been with the Falcons since 2019 and couldn’t get any kind of front-wheel drive on Thursday. It’s more than fair to be skeptical of his contribution over the next six weeks, but Ollison may have just replaced Davis in addition to Patterson.
Bryan Edwards at Cowboys of the Week 12
With Henry Ruggs no longer with the Raiders, Edwards has the opportunity to play a bigger role in the Las Vegas offense. In the Raiders ‘first game since Ruggs’ arrest for a fatal DUI, Edwards failed to score any four targets. Last week he only saw four targets but had three catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. The schedule is preparing well for the Edwards and Raiders passing game, with Dallas this week, followed by Washington, Kansas City, Cleveland, Denver and Indianapolis.
Kendrick Bourne vs. Titans in week 12
Bourne has quietly enjoyed a productive season. From week 3 to week 10, he was the WR15 in the half point PPR scoring. He gets a nice Week 12 clash against a Titans defense that gives up a fantastic 27.7 points per game to wide receivers, the third-highest total in the league.
Cole Kmet at Lions in Week 12
Kmet just won the best game of his career, a 6-87-0 performance against the Steelers in Week 9, before the Bears retired. The Notre Dame sophomore has seen eight targets, a season-high, in this game, and he’s seen at least five targets in each of his last four outings. Allen Robinson suffers from a hamstring injury and the Bears have a slim WR body, so Kmet should continue to play a leading role.
Evan Engram vs. Eagles in Week 12
Engram is so often underwhelming, but we know he’s a formidable athlete, and he has an inviting Week 12 clash against an Eagles defense that gives up a fantastic 11.3 points per game on tight ends. Philadelphia gave up a combined 8-136-0 to TE Broncos Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam in Week 10, an 11-126-2 combined to the Chargers’ TE trio in Week 9, and 10-89-0 to TJ Lions Hockenson in week 8.
Philadelphia Eagles at Giants in Week 12
The Eagles defense ranks respectable 13th in fantastic points per game and has a Week 12 fixture with the Giants. Daniel Jones is still a good quarterback to target with opposing defenses. He has seven fumbles and five interceptions and 19 sacks in nine games this season. In 36 career games, Jones has 36 fumbles, 27 interceptions and 102 sacks.
Chicago Bears at Lions in Week 12
The Bears defense ranks 18th in fantastic points per game, but secures a favorable draw against the Lions in Week 12 on Thanksgiving Day. Opposing defenses are averaging a whopping 8.1 points per game against Detroit, and the Lions haven’t scored 20 points in a game since Week 1.
