The early waiver thread is added for week 5
Damien Williams, RB, Chicago Bears (7 percent enrolled)
It’s never fun to suggest a waiver wire pickup following a player’s injury, yet here we are. David Montgomery was in the middle of a monstrous week against the Detroit Lions, compiling 23 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns. He was the first engine that propelled the Bears’ offense to an early 14-0 lead.
Sadly, Montgomery suffered what initially looked like a devastating injury that saw him suffer severe floor pain for some time. He was able to be helped to take off and leaned on a coach limping on the sidelines before finally being ruled out with knee injury.
Damien Williams entered the game as the next man and ran very well in place of Montgomery. Williams ran for 55 yards on eight carries and one touchdown and caught both of his targets for 15 yards. If Montgomery is forced to run out of time, Williams is a clear addition, assuming he’s able to adjust to Week 5 himself. Williams suffered a late-game quad injury, at which point Khalil Herbert won a few races. The Bears will face off against the Raiders and Packers over the next two weeks, two defenses that can be used, so keep an eye out for injury situations in that backfield.
Dawson Knox, TE, Buffalo Bills (46 percent enrolled)
Consider this your last call to Dawson Knox, who seems to have fully emerged as a real weapon in the Bills’ mighty passing game. Knox now has four touchdowns in his last three games, but perhaps more importantly, Knox has seen his goals drop from three to five to eight in those games.
We always have to be on the lookout for an emerging tight end to add sloshes, but what makes Knox intriguing is that he has shown potential in the past and is playing as part of a high level attack and high volume. Add it if it’s available in your leagues.
