New tariff waivers to help targeted businesses – Highland Radio

The government has announced a new targeted stand-alone commercial tariff exemption program for the first three months of this year.

A number of rate waiver programs have been implemented during the Covid 19 pandemic, with Donegal County Council noting that this is a new initiative that targets a narrower range of sectors activity.

The main categories of eligible business categories to which the credit in lieu of rates will apply for January, February and March are hotels, including restaurants and cafes; Hobbies ; Various entertainment and certain categories related to tourism, including airports.

The waiver will not apply to vacant properties.

There is no need to apply to the board, with the authority automatically applying 100% credit in lieu of commercial rates for the three month period to listed properties that are on the eligible list.

Exemption regime for targeted commercial tariffs first quarter 2022

The Ministry of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has announced a new targeted stand-alone commercial tariff exemption program for the first quarter of 2022.

It is important to note that this waiver in the first quarter of 2022 changed the criteria and targets a narrower range of business lines, and constitutes a separate stand-alone waiver program. The main categories of eligible business categories to which the credit in lieu of rate for the first quarter of 2022 are:

  • Hotels, including restaurants and cafes;
  • Hobbies;
  • Miscellaneous entertainment;
  • Certain categories related to tourism and;
  • Airports.

The waiver will not apply to vacant properties.

How to register

A request to Donegal County Council is not required. Donegal County Council will automatically apply 100% credit in lieu of commercial rates, for that three month period, to listed properties that are on the eligible list.
