Missouri WIC implements third USDA infant formula waiver – Newstalk KZRG
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri WIC is announcing a new temporary waiver that will allow the purchase of larger formula containers using WIC benefits during the Abbott infant formula recall event.
This temporary waiver allows Missouri WIC participants to purchase larger containers of formula if the standard size Similac formula is not available at authorized WIC retailers. Participants can start purchasing additional sizes of formula as early as March 16.
If applicable, entrants are encouraged to select the Similac branded formula first. This waiver will be used until at least April 30, 2022 to allow time for Abbott to restock retailers with Similac products. Missouri WIC will assess the situation on a monthly basis thereafter to determine the need to maintain the waiver.
Most WIC participants who already have plan benefits issued on their eWIC card will not need to return to their local WIC office to redeem alternate plan types or sizes at the retailer. If a participant wishes to change the type of form they have issued, they will need to return to their local WIC office.
