Minister distributes gold loan waiver certificates

Tourism Minister Mr Mathiventhan on Saturday presented gold loan waiver certificates to beneficiaries of the Barali Primary Agri Cooperative Society.

Rajya Sabha KRN MP Rajesh Kumar and DMK lawmakers took part in the event.

Here, the Minister presented the beneficiaries with certificates of loan exemption and gold jewelery pledged to the cooperative society.

According to officials, 359 beneficiaries have received loan forgiveness certificates and the promised gold has been returned to them. Loans worth ₹1.51 crore were cancelled.

Dr Mathiventhan said the DMK government under Chief Minister MK Stalin had delivered on promises made in Assembly elections and gold loan waivers were one of the key projects promised in the manifesto electoral. He said the government had already delivered on promises such as free travel for women and lower prices for Aavin’s milk.

Dr Mathiventhan said that although gold loan waivers were one of the government’s priority programs, it could not be done sooner due to irregularities in the previous regime. He said the government wanted genuine people to benefit from the waiver. Therefore, the review of the list took about five months. He added that the state government has waived gold loans up to ₹6,000 crore to Tamil Nadu.
