Matt Breida: Fantasy Football Waiver Son Pickups – Week 12

DISPLACEMENT BALL: Add more than 12 team leagues

REGISTERED IN: 20% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Buffalo Bills running back Matt Breida has appeared in the team’s backfield in recent weeks, and the year is 2021. That’s not a typo. The Bills have used a mostly timeshare backfield all season between Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, but over the past two weeks we’ve seen Matt Breida be productive and gain more playing time and touches.

Two weeks ago, in his first action of the year, he got three ground attempts and three targets (for three catches) and racked up two touchdowns – good for 17 PPR points. Then last week he continued with five rushing attempts for 51 yards, good for 10.2 yards per attempt. As RotoBaller’s Michael Florio pointed out in his article on Deeper Waiver Cable Pickups earlier in the week:

He played 32% of the snaps and had five carries, a team high, for 51 yards. He added two targets, totaling 67 yards, while the Bills’ other backs totaled 48 yards against the Colts. The Bills coaching staff talked about Breida’s speed, and he showed it with big wins.

The coaching staff said Breida won more touches, and in the Week 12 game against the Saints, they back their words – Zack Moss will be a healthy scratch.

While the Bills don’t normally use a heavy approach, they’ve lost more games than they’ve been used to lately and Breida seems to provide a spark.

While Breida carries a lot of risk for fantasy football managers at the start of this week, he is a perfect candidate to hide from the waiver thread to see how this week unfolds. Let’s not forget that the Bills are still one of the most talented teams and attacks in the NFL.
