ANALYSIS: New York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery is back in the rotation after missing time on covid-IL and fantasy managers are slow to add the 28-year-old southpaw. Montgomery allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings on his first start, but before catching Covid he was in the middle of a career year. His record is only 4-5, but Montgomery has a 3.77 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP with an average strikeout per set.
A look under the hood confirms its new success. Montgomery has an FIP of 3.54 and an xFIP of 3.95, which suggests his best career ERA is sustainable. His strikeout and walk rates are close to the league average, but he’s generating pounding strikes at a solid 13.5% rate, so there is potential for even more strikeouts. to come up. With all of the pitcher’s injuries suffered by the Yankees, Montgomery became the team’s third starter. New York will lean on him down the home stretch and he’ll pitch a fair number of innings, which should amount to plenty of wins backed by a solid lineup. Given the paucity of throws in fantasy, Montgomery’s roster should be doubled.
