Huguenot school construction waivers on the agenda of Community Council 3 meeting this week

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Architects will discuss a proposed Huguenot elementary school addition at a Community Board 3 public meeting on Wednesday evening.

The city’s school building authority is requesting waivers regarding the addition of a new school to PS 5.

The variances relate to Ministry of Transportation sidewalk and street tree improvements generally required for new development, particularly in vegetated areas along Eylandt and Stecher streets to preserve existing natural conditions and mature trees. Council will hear applications at a public land use hearing, to be held virtually at 7 p.m. via Webex.

Additionally, the Community Board 3 Parks and Recreation Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 8 at 7 p.m. via Webex. There is no set agenda.

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting must register before 9 am on the day of the meeting. An email with a link to join the meeting will be sent on the day of the meeting. Visit to register for meetings.
