Exemption from electricity bills worth Rs 6414 cr; CM will distribute certificates to beneficiaries in Katni district today

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will distribute certificates to beneficiaries of the “Chief Minister’s Electricity Bill Relief Program -2022” in Katni district on Thursday, according to official information.

The program will be held in Sleemanabad, which is the first to distribute the certificates to the beneficiaries of the program.

Up to 88 lakh electricity consumers will benefit from the scheme across the state whose cumulative electricity bills worth Rs 6414.32 crore from the Covid-19 period will be waived as announced by the Chief Minister during of the budget session of the state legislature.

Energy Minister Pradhumn Singh Tomar said, “The Chief Minister’s Electricity Bill Relief Program -2022 has been implemented to erase deferred contributions from low-income households due to the Corona outbreak in the state.

Beneficiaries include domestic consumers whose bill amount was up to Rs 100 in the month of April 2020 and only Rs 50 per month was deducted from them in the next three months (total waiver amount is Rs 49.48 crores); Domestic consumers, whose bill amount was supposed to be Rs 100 in the month of April 2020, but they received the bill between Rs 100 and Rs 400 in the next three months (Rs 57.25 crore).

Other beneficiaries include domestic consumers, whose bill amount in the month of April 2020 was supposed to be Rs 400 or less and only 50% payment was taken from them even though the amount due exceeded Rs 400 during the three coming months (total waiver amount Rs 420.24).

In addition, the program also offers an arrears waiver through August 31, 2020 for domestic consumers with a combined load of up to one kilowatt under an order dated August 27, 2020. The total amount of the waiver is of Rs 4914 crore.

Consumers will also not have to pay estimated interest on unpaid bills, which stands at Rs 972 crore until March 2022.

If during the lockdown, electricity bills payable during the months of April and May have been paid by the normal due date, an additional 1% incentive will be given to consumers, which is estimated at Rs 1, 75 crore.

Under this scheme, all such domestic consumers with a combined load of up to one kilowatt, whose principal amount and surcharge amount have been deferred until August 31, 2020 will be required to submit an application in a format prescribed by the company of electricity distribution to take advantage of the scheme.
